Zoning Board approves solar project with setback variances
Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of August 26, 2026
WAREHAM — Zoning Board approves solar arrays with setback variances on Maple Springs Road. Chair Nazih Elkallassi and the board unanimously granted two setback variances and a special permit for Wareham Solar One LLC to develop 38.6 acres of solar panels with battery storage west of Maple Springs Road, imposing 26 protective conditions following a court remand. The solar project is designed to clear approximately 20 acres and restore approximately 14 acres with pollinator-friendly grasses and is typically designed to operate for 20 years with two five-year extensions.
In separate action, the board granted a use variance from commercial to residential for 215 Sandwich Road but failed to approve site variances for that project, each requiring a supermajority of four members to pass.
