Wareham Select Board closes spring special town meeting warrant with 16 articles
Select Board · Meeting of March 31, 2026
Wareham Select Board declines to recommend a zoning bylaw petition and closes two town meeting warrants. At the March 31 meeting, the board voted 3-1 with one abstention against recommending Article 19, a petition to add section 952 to the zoning bylaws, with Chair Sarah Corbitt and Clerk Judith Whiteside both voting no, citing an ongoing comprehensive zoning overhaul led by consultant Judy Barrett and Planning Director Josh Faraday. Corbitt said Wareham's existing bylaws are "a mess" of contradictions built up over many years and called it "inappropriate" to layer on new provisions mid-review.
The board unanimously recommended favorable action on 14 other spring annual town meeting articles and voted to close a spring special town meeting warrant carrying 16 articles, including sewer capital projects and several financial transfers. Elizabeth Aroney was unanimously appointed associate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals through June 30, 2026, and the board accepted a $143,700 state grant to study possible removal of the Tremont Pond Dam.
