Wareham Select Board votes down late-night liquor hours, approves appointments

Select Board · Meeting of June 16, 2026

Wareham Select Board rejects 3 a.m. liquor hours, 2-3, citing police staffing concerns. Members Joseph Still and Marcus Gomes favored opting in to the state's temporary extended-hours allowance; Jared Chadwick, Judith Whiteside and Chair Sarah Corbitt opposed it, with one member noting the town's problems with impaired patrons "have occurred after midnight." The board separately accepted a $35,000 donation from the Wareham Library Foundation for part-time staff salaries and e-books, and a $40 gift from Joanne Long to the Council on Aging. Town Administrator Derek Sullivan told the board Wareham is seeking to retain its federal Opportunity Zone designation, one of 79 awarded statewide, credited with spurring redevelopment near Bessie Park.

The board also honored Michael A. Baptiste Sr. for 37 years on the Planning Board and cleared a dozen-plus routine board and committee reappointments by unanimous vote.
