Wareham Select Board approves appointments, event permits at June meeting
Select Board · Meeting of June 2, 2026
Wareham Select Board approves appointments as state halts beach raking through peak summer. The board unanimously approved a slate of routine business, including appointing Carolyn E. McClure as unenrolled registrar of voters, William Scott Parr and Michael Mercier to the Conservation Commission, and reappointing James Muniz to the Affordable Housing Trust.
Chair Sarah Corbitt's terms on the Community Events Committee and Wareham Redevelopment Authority were rescinded and reissued with corrected end dates of December 30, 2026, and June 30, 2027, respectively. Town Administrator Sullivan reported the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries has ordered a halt to beach raking until July 1 over horseshoe crab declines, with Little Harbor Beach restricted until August 1 for nesting piping plovers. During public comment, Onset resident James Bigelow said "the problem still remains in your government," describing four and a half years of unanswered complaints about sand piling onto his property from a neighboring yacht club's permitted dumping.
