Conservation Panel Approves Prospect Street Pier, 5-0
Conservation · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Wareham Conservation Commission approves a 160-foot Prospect Street pier it once would have denied over shellfish habitat. The panel, chaired by Sandra Slavin, voted 5-0 for applicant Steven C. Caradimos after Conservation Agent Josh noted the state's latest shellfish-habitat letter used softer language than past denial letters, undercutting the commission's usual rationale.
Conditions include $150 per waterborne piling into a shellfish fund and boat-draft review "in perpetuity." The board separately approved four Eleete Mainst LLC duplex projects on Main Street, 4-0-0 each, with member Jessica Park recused. A lengthy, unresolved debate over cutting the town's $75 wetlands filing fee to zero — "we want to encourage people to come to us," one commissioner argued — drew pushback from Slavin, who called fee elimination going "to the mattresses." The meeting was briefly disrupted by a caller who shouted a racial slur over Zoom before being removed.
