Wareham School Committee approves all four student handbooks

School Committee · Meeting of May 21, 2026

Wareham School Committee unanimously approves four revised student handbooks, banning face-covering "shiesties" and recording-capable smart glasses at the high school. The panel also voted 5-0-0 to enroll Wareham Elementary School in the Alan Feinstein Leadership Schools program, which offers a weekly $2,000 raffle plus a $500 student-directed charitable award. Secretary Joyce Bacchiocchi disclosed that district staff layoffs and building reassignments took effect this past week under a May 15 contractual deadline, saying "there were folks who work in the district now who won't work in the district next year because of budget cuts." Chair Geoffrey Swett reported the roughly $780,000 Park Scholarship endowment grew just 1 percent in early 2026, short of its roughly 5 percent target, though new "prudent investor" investment language should offer more flexibility.

Bills and payroll passed 4-0-1.
