School Committee Adopts New 'Bridge Plan' for Year
School Committee · Meeting of October 1, 2026
Wareham School Committee adopts a one-year "bridge plan" bridging two strategic plans. Superintendent Dr. Amy Hartley-Matteson, three months into the job, unveiled priorities around tier-one classroom instruction, student behavior and a districtwide technology and cell phone study.
The committee voted 5-0-0 to accept $3,400 in gifts, including $1,500 from Michael and Julie Vargo for unified sports, and voted 4-0-1 to approve payroll and bill warrants. District enrollment stands at 1,935 students. Member Apryl Rossi said "MCAS started the year after I graduated, so we didn't have MCAS as a baseline," pushing back on testing-centric accountability measures.
Another member warned that without a measurement plan, the bridge plan is "just a lot of intelligent, thoughtful verbiage." The committee also voted 4-0-1 to declare three pieces of laundry equipment obsolete.
