Wareham Planning Board continues two contested subdivision hearings to June 22

Planning Board · Meeting of May 18, 2026

Wareham Planning Board reappoints Sam Corbitt, continues two contested hearings to June 22. The board unanimously reappointed Corbitt to the Planning Board itself and to its seats on the Community Preservation Committee and Capital Planning Committee. A subdivision hearing for 16 Broad Street, represented by attorney Alan Gifford for owner Yvonne Dunkel, stalled after members questioned whether informally transferred family lots still constitute a subdivision requiring board approval; the board is sending the question to town counsel.

Gifford asked, "Why should we be penalized for something that was fired seven years ago?" A site plan review for a truck and storage lot at 2838 Cranberry Highway, sought by Bill Bichon and buyer Ronald Catone, drew safety objections from neighbor Ross McKee, who said, "If you guys would do a walk, you'd understand." Both hearings were continued unanimously to June 22.
