Wareham rejects parking bylaw, advances solar settlement
Planning Board · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Wareham Planning Board rejects a parking bylaw change and advances a village redevelopment zone and a long-fought solar settlement. The board voted 0-4 against recommending a citizen's petition, filed by Alan Slavin, to let businesses count public parking within three-eighths of a mile toward requirements, with Member Carl Schulz calling the town's zoning bylaws "patchwork." Chair Jane Gleason detailed a mediated settlement on the 91 and 101 Fearing Hill Road solar project, including removal of its battery storage system, continuing that hearing to September 28 after documents arrived hours before the meeting. Resident Eric Lintilla told the board "if there is not 100 percent guarantee" against contamination, "this project should be denied." The board also voted unanimously to recommend expanding the Wareham Village Reinvestment Subdistrict, adding Main Street and Chapel Street parcels identified in a 2018 blight study.
