Wareham Planning Board splits 4-1 on releasing $350,000 in escrow funds
Planning Board · Meeting of May 11, 2026
Wareham Planning Board splits 4-1 to release $350,000 in dormant project escrow funds. Member Sam Corbitt, who spent two years sorting the decades-old 53G accounts, won board approval to direct the town to return unspent developer fees, but Carl Schulz voted no, saying "it's not our responsibility" without a complete accounting. The board also approved, 4-0 with one abstention each, two lot-line adjustments after Schulz raised a recurring legal question about whether both lots in an approval-not-required plan must meet frontage rules, prompting the board to seek a written opinion from town counsel.
Separately, the board opened and closed a public hearing the same night, granting the Buzzards Bay Coalition 12 waivers and approving a definitive subdivision at 20-22 Long Neck Road that separates two homes from a wetland conservation easement. Members also released $165,941 in surety bonds for the Day Point Road subdivision and cleared site plan conditions at 2 East Boulevard, 238-240 Sandwich Road and a Cranberry Highway parcel near Taco Bell.
