Wareham Conservation Commission approves flood-zone home despite turtle and flooding fears. The board voted unanimously Wednesday to approve construction of an elevated single-family home in a flood zone off Avenue A for owner William Baychon, over objections from neighbors including abutter Sarah Serban, who said she "did have to get rescued by a fire department during a storm a couple of years ago" when water reached her waist. Commissioners continued a Point Independence Yacht Club plan to dredge up to 4,000 cubic yards near its docks to June 17 after resident Jeffrey Langerin said past dredge spoils "caused detrimental harm to the beach." Separately, 45-year Burgess Point Road resident Marie Grandmont told the board an unidentified contractor dumped crushed stone across her private road, and Conservation Agent Christine Santos reported continued illegal dumping into wetlands near the town's wastewater treatment plant.
