Wareham board backs letter of support for $26 million sewer plan
Select Board · Meeting of March 17, 2026
Wareham board backs $26 million sewer plan, weighs plastic bag ban. Water Pollution Control Director Scott Crayhansel told the Select Board the town's comprehensive wastewater plan requires a 79.4 percent cut in nitrogen reaching the Wareham River, and pitched relocating the plant's outfall point to avoid a $200 million-plus ocean discharge project. The board voted 5-0 to authorize the chair to draft a letter of support for a $26 million force main replacement.
"It would be a massive cost saving for the town," Crayhansel said. Residents Joanne Finn, Amanda Cobb and Deacon Hillary Green previewed a warrant article to ban single-use plastic bags, following 163 Massachusetts towns. The board reappointed Richard Bowen, who has represented Wareham roughly 38 years, as town counsel for another year, and noticed an April 27 special town meeting, warrant closing March 31.
