Conservation · Meeting of August 5, 2026

Wareham's Conservation Commission continued a hearing on a 208-foot Onset Bay pier to August 19, saying it needed more time to review a state shellfish report. Chair Sandra Slavin, who said she has never voted to approve a dock or pier in two and a half years on the commission, wants to compare the Division of Marine Fisheries findings against past denials the board's seen upheld in court. Engineer Brad Bertolo of JC Engineering said a shellfish survey found 19 shellfish across 42 sample plots at the Prospect Street site.

In other action, the commission voted 6-0-0 to recommend associate member Scott Parr for full voting membership, denied an incomplete tree-removal application at 3 Marks Cove Road, and began weighing a nitrogen fertilizer bylaw tied to the town's wastewater management plan, with member Scott Parr telling colleagues "I believe the Commission has the authority and the power to enact and enforce regulations as they relate to the buffer and resource areas."
