WAREHAM — The Wareham Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a use variance and special permit letting Danny Warren's Main Street restaurant operate as a function and banquet hall, setting occupancy at 696 people. Engineer Bill Madden represented applicant Jane Warren; architect Rob DeRozier said the main floor could hold 346 people, with Warren saying outdoor areas could add 250 more. The board granted a special permit under Article 9 allowing 15 seats per parking space across the property's 46 spaces.
More than a dozen residents, including former Selectman Alan Slavin and restaurant owner Robert Navoychek, spoke in support, with Slavin calling existing parking disputes "something that's going to probably come back in the spring." A lone neighbor, K.L. Hasteider, raised noise concerns about a refrigerated truck, which Warren said had already been converted to a quieter electric compressor. The board also approved a partial certificate of occupancy for four of six Chapel Lane duplex units, 3-1, with a $40,000 completion bond, and signed off 3-0 on a Cranberry Highway gas station project after the chair recused himself.
