Wareham's Zoning Board approved a long-litigated solar array and denied a Sandwich Road duplex twice.
Zoning Board · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Wareham's Zoning Board approved a long-litigated solar array and denied a Sandwich Road duplex twice. The board voted 5-0 to grant two setback variances and a special permit with 26 conditions for Wareham Solar One LLC's 38.6-acre solar and battery storage project off Maple Springs Road, following a court remand. Clerk James Eacobacci said "this has been scrutinized," noting neighbors had voiced concerns throughout the process.
Separately, variances for a duplex conversion at 215 Sandwich Road failed twice, 3-1-1 and 3-2-0, short of the four-vote supermajority required. The board also continued a 4 West Street affordable housing hearing to September 23, with a decision deadline extended to October 10, after the applicant said the fire department had not responded to repeated outreach. Member Christopher Conti, who opposed the West Street project over density and traffic, was honored at meeting's end as he departs the board.
