WAREHAM — The Wareham Zoning Board of Appeals approved five variances and special permits and signed off on a decades-old Dunkin' Donuts title gap, while continuing a contested Maple Springs Road solar project hearing to August 26. Board members Connor Alden, Troy Larson, James Eacobacci, Elizabeth Arone and Chris Conti voted 5-0 on every matter, while Chair Nazih Elkallassi, joining by Zoom, abstained from voting throughout. Attorney Greg Sampson of Sullivan & Worcester told the board the roughly 30-acre-plus battery storage project returns under a Land Court remand with about 30 safety conditions attached, but member Conti objected that "I don't really see a packet here from you people, what you're asking us for besides approving these conditions." Maple Springs Road resident Richard Bork told the board "approximately 40-plus acres, maybe more, have been clear-cut" near his home.
Director of Planning Joshua Faherty also briefed the board on new state zoning law changes that will push the town's bylaw recodification to spring town meeting.
