Wareham Zoning Board Approves Gas Station, Overturns Drive-Through Ruling

Zoning Board · Meeting of April 8, 2026

Wareham zoning board backs Onset Avenue gas station, punts on 56-lot subdivision fight. The Zoning Board of Appeals voted 4-0-1 to grant a special permit for a gas station, convenience store and drive-through coffee shop at 447 Onset Avenue, then split 3-0-2 to rule the project's internal drive-through needs no variance, overturning the building commissioner. Attorney Robert L.

Perry represented applicant GNF Crown Petroleum; Depot Liquors owner Sean McCoy objected that "it puts me out of business." Separately, attorney Peter Teitelbaum argued setback relief is needed across all 56 Hidden Trails subdivision lots so families "aren't chasing balls out into the street," but the board continued that hearing to April 22 after a member's absence raised quorum questions. Chair Nazih Elkallassi also pressed applicants to stop filing plans the night of hearings.
