Wareham Finance Committee reviews FY27 school and town budgets
Finance Committee · Meeting of March 25, 2026
Wareham Finance Committee previews FY27 budget gap, weighs up to 40 school job cuts. Superintendent Matt D'Andrea told the committee Monday that Wareham Public Schools' proposed $38,244,686 budget, a $2.1 million increase, will likely require eliminating 35 to 40 staff positions by the state's May 15 layoff-notice deadline. Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said the town can offer schools $548,181 in new funding, on top of $341,138 in added Upper Cape Cod Regional Technical School costs and $556,287 combined for charter and school choice assessments.
Select Board Liaison Judith Whiteside pushed back hard, telling school officials, "You are a department of the town. You have to play the same game." Upper Cape Tech's superintendent presented a $21,379,762 foundation budget, up 6.02 percent. The committee deferred all budget votes to March 30.
