Sewer board OKs $160,000 Kennedy pump station study

Water · Meeting of September 24, 2026

Wareham sewer board approves $160,000 Kennedy Lane pump station study amid funding-tracking concerns. The Board of Sewer Commissioners voted 5-0 to hire Weston & Sampson Engineers for preliminary design work protecting against a Narrows pump station flood scenario that threatens roughly 85 percent of tributary sewer flow, engineer John Potts told the board. Commissioner Carrie Pastor pressed for clarity on which budget line would cover the cost, saying "as we approve something, we should say where is the funds coming from," after members disagreed over whether an "enterprise fund" distinct from the operating budget even exists.

The board also approved a $102,274.79 pass-through grant contract with Ferguson Waterworks and extended consultant Cali Barrasso's contract to September 30, 2027. Member Sandy Slavin warned the Finance Committee has begun its own review of EDU-versus-water-usage sewer billing after hearing a prior chair claim a rate contract was ready to sign.
