WAREHAM — The Wareham School Committee heard a pointed accountability exchange over student outcomes and approved a JROTC overnight trip and an amended pay rate sheet. Chair Geoffrey Swett pressed new superintendent Dr. Amy Hartley-Matteson's coach, Dr.
Meg Mayo-Brown of the state's New Superintendent Induction Program, on who should be held responsible for declining academic results, saying he was "uncomfortable with this notion of a honeymoon" year for new leadership. Mayo-Brown, a former Fall River and Barnstable superintendent, declined to assign blame, saying her focus was "what is my role as a superintendent to lead my district to better student outcomes." The committee voted 3-0-0 by roll call to approve an overnight JROTC campout on Wickets Island for September 11-12 and 3-0-0 to amend the hourly rate sheet, adding an $18-per-hour substitute bus monitor rate now that regular bus monitors fall under the Unit C contract. Secretary Joyce Bacchiocchi, joining remotely, said MCAS scores "are not, hopefully, the only thing that we measure momentum with." Swett separately reported the district's roughly $750,000 Park Scholarship endowment has grown past $800,000 after the town adopted new "prudent investor" investment authority.
