Mosquito Sample in Wareham Tests Positive for West Nile Virus
WAREHAM — A mosquito sample collected in Wareham has tested positive for West Nile virus, town officials announced, as the town separately launched a new Silver Alert program to help locate missing seniors and released the warrant for the 2026 Fall Town Meeting.
TOWN HALL Town officials confirmed that a mosquito sample collected in Wareham tested positive for West Nile virus, according to the town's alert center. Residents are advised to take standard precautions against mosquito bites as the season winds down.
The town also announced the Wareham Silver Alert Program, described as a collaborative effort to help locate missing seniors, as a new safety initiative. Separately, the town posted the warrant for the 2026 Fall Town Meeting and announced plans for ADA accessibility improvements at the Lillian Gregerman Bandshell in Onset, the same venue set to host the Harvest Moon Festival later this month.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Friends of the Wareham Free Library wrapped up their annual book sale Saturday, Sept. 19, after a three-day run that began Thursday. The library also hosted a Cara Bean comics and mindful doodling workshop for teens and tweens Saturday morning.
The library's Fall Family Storytime series continues Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. through Nov. 17. Looking further ahead, the library's Fall Concert Series continues Monday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. with a performance by folk singer Meghan Cary.
