Finance Committee tables sewer land article, 5-1

Finance Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026

Wareham Finance Committee tabled a sewer land-lease article and backed most other fall Town Meeting warrant items. The committee voted 5-1 to table Article 10, which would declare town land surplus for leasing, with Chair Joseph Smith opposed. Sewer Commission Chair Jim Giberti and Water Pollution Control Facility Director Scott Kraihanzel said sludge disposal costs about $600,000 a year, and could rise 50 to 100 percent when the Woonsocket, R.I., site closes in December.

A member said the article needed "a better sales pitch for the people." The committee recommended 14 articles, referred three to Town Meeting, and voted 5-1 for a petition article on off-site parking. It also approved $315 in dues.
