Zoning Board approves seven variances and special permits in March hearing.
Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Wareham's Zoning Board of Appeals approved seven variances and special permits at its March 11 meeting. Chair Nazih Elkallassi oversaw unanimous votes to grant a fitness and martial arts facility use variance at 3042 Cranberry Highway, a two-family conversion variance at 2850 Cranberry Highway, and a demolition-and-rebuild special permit at Shangri-La Boulevard. Clerk Jim Eacobacci moved most approvals.
The board voted four-to-one, with Richard Semple opposed, to grant a special permit waiving screening requirements at 2 East Boulevard. In a significant decision, the board unanimously overturned a building commissioner's interpretation and granted relief allowing 247 Onset Avenue to meet mixed-use zoning requirements under a single five-thousand-square-foot minimum rather than a ten-thousand-square-foot total. Two hearings were continued to late March and May.
